I'm new to modding

My first mod will be to build a lamp, I have some items on order but I have a couple of questions:
What type of iron is most commonly used for Surface mounted LED like the Cree? I have a nice temp controlled Hako but no SMD tip.
What board (star) are people using for bare emitters? (non cree) Thanks

You don't need an SMD tip. All the current-gen emitters are available on MCPCBs that you can easily solder to from the top and heatsink to from the bottom.
