Dorcy 1.5 V - 8 Volt 1 Watt LED Module Vs. Nite Ize LED Upgrade For C & D Cells

I am interested in comparing the Dorcy 1.5 V - 8 Volt 1 Watt LED Module to the Nite Ize LED Upgrade For C & D Cells.

The Dorcy lists that it is a 1 wall Luxeon with 45 lumens, but I can't seem to tell any details of the Nite Ize. I know that Nite Ize does make a 1 watt LED http://www.niteize.com/productdetail.php?category_id=28&product_id=166
but the one in the first URL apparently is not it, but I can't seem to tell what the specifications are. Does anybody here know?

Review of the Niteize drop-in. Predicted lumen is around 6.5 lumen. The second Niteize drop-in seems similar to the Terralux Ministar1 which means it should be similar to the Dorcy drop-in.

What are you looking for? Runtime or output?

I am much more interested in output, so it appears as if the Dorcy may be much better for output, but the Nite Ize may be better for run time, if I understand this correctly.

What light will you be running the drop-ins in?

If the Terralux ones fit(the EX, 4-6 cell, and EXB, 2-3 cell), then those would be better if you want output. They use the newer TFFC K2 LEDs and are brighter then both the Dorcy and Niteize drop-in(Though having a Seoul in there would give you a bit more performance).

It is an old Eveready Captain and has a plastic reflector. Hopefully the Dorcy isn't too hot for a plastic reflector.

It shouldn't be.

If the module gets hot enough to melt plastic, that's really bad news for the LED.

I've been buying the Dorcys (www.dorcydirect.com) to give to people who are still using old 2-cell flashlights with PR bulbs in them.

At $8 they're an easy gift that people are grateful to get.

("The first one is free, little child ...." Mwha-ha-ha-ha-haaaa....)

I've put the Dorcys in 4xD, 5xD, and 6xD Mags in the emergency box.

The Dorcy's handy in using a wide range of voltages. The picture at Dorcy's web page is outdated.

Look for the earlier thread on PR type bulbs for more info.
