wow. this thing is fun:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00007GCYS/qid%3D1048721781

toys-r-us carries them for $10, runs on 3AAA batteries, and seems to have
at least a single set of bright R-G-B leds... various super hyper strobe
patterns - makes a sauce wand look lethargic. probably can induce epilepsy
so better buy some soon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

i'm thinking of ripping into them and making juggling apparatus out of them
for "club swinging"/poi/meteors as well as sticking them into some balls
and/or juggling clubs or something.

they also have some kinda fiber optic color changing lameness for $5,
but i'm ignoring those /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just got one of these things from its inventor at the University of San Diego physics dept. I have not yet taken it out of the package. It really does put a Sauce wand in its place, at least during the short time I've played with it so far. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The front of the package reads "StrobeFX" and "Shake it & Twirl it To Create Over 20 Light Shows!" in big letters. The back of the package shows 6 "light shows" and reads "Over 20 Different Patterns & 15 Different Colors!".
I'm sure if you waved the thing around in different ways you could do a whole lot more than just 20 light shows. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
But it would probably break if you smacked something hard with it (like a Sauce wand) so don't do that with a StrobeFX. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The package has the area around the buttons cut out, so you can try it without opening the whole thing. There are 3 AAA cells already installed - so there's no telling how much use they already have on them.

yeah, oops, 3 AAA :>

i've been putting the thing through it's paces. it's
VERY durable. that stalk is very strong, and flexible,
and the "ball" end is actually soft rubber. very soft.

someone i know bought some as a cheap psychotronic inducer
toy. i guess you stare at it for 20 minutes (one for
each eye) and the brain freaks or some fun thing.

for $10, it definitely kicks ***.

perhaps we could get the inventor on here? special inside
secrets. i haven't memorized the instruction sheet yet,
but i'd like to know how to keep the things on indefinitely
(it sez auto off in 3 minutes). hmmm.

Pic 16C54, software, and some leds and you could make your own. Depending on how elaborate the software is you could make it do alot more than just 20 tricks. I had a McDonalds happy meal toy that did alot more than 20 patterns and it was self power( pull-cord spins generator).
