XP Pro Validation Question...

I have a neighbor's computer here and it is in need of some serious help.. I'm afraid, however, it doesnt have a valid copy of WinXP Pro... Is there a way I can check this with out using MS online validation tool... I would hate to kill it... I am trying just to remove the virus/mailware/other junk....

If he bought the computer with a bootleg copy installed, or bought the bootleg copy thinking it was legit, MS will give him a free legit copy if he can provide receipts for the bootleg one.

Install Acronis Trueimage, make a backup then try whatever you want, if it doesn't work out, you can always restore from backup, no harm done.

You can even use the "Try and decide" if it doesn't work out, just reboot and system will be restored.
