L1 Head Interchangeable??

Will a new L1 Cree head work on an old L1 body and vise versa??

The L1 heads are "dumb" that is to say, no converters. They are in a direct drive configuration. Putting the Cree XR-E on the L2 is likely quite detrimental as the L2 is designed to boost the 2x123 supply to a voltage needed to drive a 5W Luxeon at ~700 mA as I recall. You would want a buck converter in the L2 to drive the Cree XR-E.

I put an L1 head with a green LED on my E2E one time. It was AWESOME for a night or two. Then POOF. I sent it back to Surefire and they repaired it. I put it back on the E2E. Again.....POOF. I called Surefire on the telephone and told the guy what happened. He explained that the L1 head was NOT interchangable like the KL1 and they weren't going to repair it again unless I paid for it. I felt like a real dummy. That green LED on overdrive was really churning out some light until it burned up. I sold the head to a modder and bought a KL1. So yes, it will work on a two cell body....just not for long.
