MOD218KL1CBpic1900x.jpg

I had two old style KL1's with ugly optics and old bluish LuxI's inside that I wanted to get modernised. Both KL1's got a turned down McR20S reflector and Seoul P4 USW0H. One got a DB500 driver, his twin brother a DB700.

I completed these mods several months ago but due to lack of time I couldn't post them before now.

Very nice indeed! I had Milky make me an old KL1 very similar. Unfortunately with the stock driver, which really doesnt seem to have that long of a runtime, I'll have to see what I can do about that... Wish I had your modding skills thats for sure!

How do people get the wires in the driver board so neat? I destroy driver boards just trying to solder the wires to it....

This mod is exactly what I need to do to my old KL1 heads.

What does it cost to complete a mod like this? It seems that the cost to mod an old KL1 would be about the same as buying a new a new KX series head.

Just swap the stock LED with a SSC P4 and replace stock optic with McR18(-s). This way is cheap and easy mod. You can find satisfaction in this mod.

Cost is cost of the led, driver board, reflector and the epoxy (take a look at the shoppe if you want to know exact cost).
If you can live with the old circuit I think ROK's suggestion may be a good alternative.

Allmost there now....!

One question:

You have to desolder the one (+) point of center and 2 (-) points of circumference.
You can find it easily.

And I prefer a SSC P4 to Cree due to the dimension of dimension.
