What to do with a 2D maglight (as a beginner)?

I just found a 2D maglight i bought a decade or so ago lying around in a box.
Its of course totally unusable with its size/output factor, but i remember seeing lots of mag mods here.
But most of them (IIRC) were 3D ones.

So my question: Can something nice be made out of one with <50$ part costs?
(Nice meaning >1k lumen, runtime of no concern)

Dont hold you creativity because you think yourself as a beginer. My first mod was a 5 Cree Mag. Boy it was hard but a lot of lessons learnt. Definately worth it.

Just my 2 cents.

with 2D the simplest is ROP.

thanks.

in a 2d for under 50$ you can do 5761philips mod

you need:
metal reflector from FiveMega (with large hole)
glass lens (from Five mega too)
6AA>2D adapter (the best are from FiveMega but cost quite a lot)
kiu-socket
some high drain batteries like ELITE 1700
and 5761 bulb (over 1K L)

with that set-up you can also use bulbs as ROP HIGH, ROP LOW, WA1111

you'll find that you are really over 50$ but these are the best components available you can also buy this comp. from other shops for less $$ but probably they are worse...

good luck with modding!

I just did this with a friends 2D...

Direct Drive SSC P4 off 3Cs, simple, effective, relatively cheap.

Just need to cut down the tail spring and rub off the anodizing in the tail cap. Get some 1" PVC Pipe 450PSI, gets you the outside diameter of a D, and the internal fits C batts perfectly.

Get a DHS HA heatsink, epoxy an SSC on it, then wire it directly to the switch. Your done! Probably cost you around $25-30 in parts. Another $3-$4 for an AMC7135 driver if you want modes.

It will even run, if not as bright off 2Ds.

You need heatsink for SSC P4. I like a post for this mod gives wide range focus fom spot to flood.
SHO Micropuck from Led Supply 500ma will give around 130 bulb lumen's
for several hour's as in all night with 2D cell's.

One of my favorites is P4 Direct Drive with a 3.7 volt Lion protected cell
Work's great if you just need bright light for hour or two run time depend's
on the size battery you use.

ROP is nice Ican
