For my Dad's birthday, I went in with my sister and brother and we got my Dad a SF E1L. He currently has no lights, but as he likes to go hiking for several days/nights in Asheville, NC area ... I thought he'd like this.

Since I had it, I thought I would take a couple beamshots before I give it to him tomorrow. I'm sure he won't mind :D

FYI: All beams in real life appear brighter.

Surefire E1L (3/45) on upper left, L1 (10/65 Lumens) on lower right

Both lights had fresh Surefire C123 cells. Camera settings were held constant for all shots.

Control shot. This is me and my wifes townhouse. Distance from where I was standing to the blinds on the far wall, exactly 25 feet.

Both Beams. This one is reversed. L1 high on left, E1L high on right.

Low, High and Throw
3 lumens is more than enough for going around the house, and on high ... its a little hard to perceive a difference between the L1 high with your naked eye. I took them outside and it throws nearly as well as the L1, slightly less but its close. I give the L1 the edge in every test, but it doesn't seem like its 25% (20 lumens) better.

Overall Impressions
I like it. It's a good light and its very compact. The beam has a slight ring around the hot spot when its on a white wall, but in practical use its harder to notice. I think the interface is great as well. If you don't ever think you'll use your light in a self defense role (blinding someone, clearing a house), I think its a great light to have.

For me, I prefer the L1 interface where I don't have to worry about clicks. However, if I was in the woods overnight or needed a light in a natural disaster situation, the E1L would make a great utility light.

Thanks. This was my first "review".

Would have liked to have got some outdoor throw shots but it was late and I had to pack the E1L back up for my dad.

Thanks for sharing,

Quite like the tint on the E1L and the output on high is also respectable. The low is just perfect for my needs. IMO L1 low is kinda high. Best option is to get one of those F04 beamshaper to get more spill.....

Thanks for the comparison. I am contemplating getting an E1 and liked the comparison to the L1. I think the E1L runtime is great on high and the amount of light it puts out is not much less in than the L1 (from a visual perspective) but the runtime is much greater.

Nice job and thanks for sharing. Do you or anyone else know how this light compares to the E1B?

Thanks for the beamshots Fooboy!
Quite similar lights that I had a hard time deciding between. This makes me more confident in my choice to get the new KX1 dual head for my E1L rather than getting a L1.

Not to threadjack...

The E1L comes across, at least to me, as more of an all-around utility light with low first. Versus the E1B being more tactical with the high 80 lumens coming on with the first press.

In un-scientific outdoors testing last night the E1L was bright and throws well with the optic, but not quite as far as the E1B. I can see the difference at 150-200 feet between the 45 lumens on the E1L and the 80 lumens on the E1B.

The test was literally trying to illuminate the broad side of a barn. :p

Surprised there is not more interest over the E1L ...

Thanks for the review. Does anyone else notice a slight (greenish?) hue in the L1 on the side by side pic? My L1 has this hue as well but I don't notice it at all when using it outside.

Updated with 6PL and 2D Mag with Nite Ize drop in.

L1, to my eyes, seems like the brightest still. Maybe mine is an over achiever :)

Re: Beamshots! Surefire E1L vs. Surefire L1 (Update: 4.06 - 6PL, 2D Mag with Nite Iz

Is there any SF tailcap that will fit the E1L (or in my case the E1B) that functions like the L1? I like the ability to have low first while still being able to access high with just a bit more pressure. I believe the E1L/B both have the electronics in the head versus the L1's being in the body so there might not be any way to do this but I was just curious..............thanks!

SO YOU OPENED A GIFT FOR YOUR FATHER TO PLAY WITH IT????

Yeah, I wouldn't be able to resist either!! LOL!

I love the way the L1 smoked the 6PL in the wall shots!
