Hi everyone,

The AB Mapasaurus family got a new member over the weekend, the AB Clipboard Phoenix. It's a variation on the AB Phoenix ver 1.1 - this time intended for use attached to a clipboard. These lights were built as a custom project for a local theatre group who wanted some small lights they could use while taking notes in a dark theatre, etc.

The Clipboard Phoenix has a shorter, stiffer neck than the rest of the Phoenix family, and is optimized for clipboard use by means of a large ACME clip. Light source is the excellent Novigear 7-LED head, with modified (ie: milled) LEDs for a more diffused beam. Notice the nice centre hotspot and wide, well-diffused corona.

Here are a few photos:

Runs on 3 AA batteries and super for use as a task light, map light, reading light...

Like all of the AB Mapasaurus family (see the link in my signature for all the various models, information, etc.) these are available on a custom basis, can easily be built modified for your specific purpose, etc. Price for the AB Clipboard Phoenix is $US 30 includes airmail anywhere in the world.

...

P.S. - the original Phoenix is still available and the Phoenix version 1.1 is also now available. The Phoenix ver. 1.1 is identical in all respects to the original Phoenix except that its' power plug is located on the top of the battery case rather than on the end.

These photos show the original Phoenix in the middle (extended in an upright position), the original Phoenix on the far right (seated!), and the Phoenix ver. 1.1 on the left. All Phoenix headstalks (like all AB Mapasaurus headstalks) are flexible and can easily be configured in whatever orientation you prefer.

p.s. - some details about the myth of the Phoenix:

The phoenix was a fabulous mythical Arabian bird, said to be as large as an eagle, with brilliant scarlet and gold plumage and a melodious cry. It was said that only one phoenix existed at any one time, and it was very long-lived - no ancient sources gave it a life-span less than 500 years. As its end approached, the phoenix made a nest of aromatic branches and spices, set it on fire, and was consumed in the flames. From the ashes (according to some sources, from the midst of the flames) miraculously sprang a new phoenix...
