are unprotected 18650s thinner than protected ones?

I am moding an old flashlight and the ID of the body is exactly 18cm. My question is are unprotected 18650s skinnier than protected ones? I am trying to squeeze an 18650 into this body.

I think the unprotected ones are also over 18mm. I think mine are about 18.3..mm

yup.. protected 18650 are thicker. also different brands veri in thickness.

I'll generally bore to 18.3 mm for bare 18650 or 18.5mm+ which will fit some protected 18650. so really depends on how much metal you've got to work with.

A slight bit thicker due to a metal strip and required insulation on one side. They're usually longer, too.

The difference in thicknes is only marginal

I had a light which wouldn't fit some protected 18650's but I just used a metal file on the battery compartment until they did fit.
