Well I had a nice long write up on the KL5A i just received, but CPF went down and took all my info with it!!!:shakehead

Anyway, I sent my KL5 to SF for warranty repairs and got it back today.

I was checking it out and saw the laser etching now said KL5A:thinking:

It looks the exact same but upon peering into the reflector I noticed a familiar face......the Seoul P4 emitter instead of a LUX V:eek::shrug::thinking::twothumbs

So......I guess SF did decide to do a small upgrade to the KL5, which is now the KL5.....A:thumbsup:

I'm guessing they did something different with the driver as well to run the Seoul properly.

I will get pics up soon......

bloody oath, that is pretty!

hopefully it will actually run properly on 2 li-ion without overdriving it.

how long did your kl5 spent at surefire? mine has been there for 8 weeks now.

If it's now a Seoul P4 with a ~3.5V Vf, it's probably a bucks circuit now, meaning it may run at over 6V now! Like the Cree E2L that has been tested with 3 CR123A and the P60L that is used in the G3L with 3 CR123A.

Now! Does it means the L4/L2 will be upgraded with a Seoul P4? That would be nice... KL4A with a nice bright flood!

People are sort of jaded on April 1st. A lot of us were fooled today with other threads, such as Gene MalKoff's "Mag AA drop in".

Re: SUREFIRE KL5 UPDATED-----KL5A

Compared to an original KL5, it does appear to be a bit brighter, but night time should help to compare the KL5A and old KL5 better.

I wonder what other upgrades SF is doing without any prior notice.....

I certainly was Not expecting this AT ALL!!

I was actually going to sell it UNTIL I realized that it was a new model.

Runtime should be longer too! Good news. >1.5h of real flat regulation? ;)

Re: SUREFIRE KL5 UPDATED-----KL5A

Going by the die size, I'd say the newer KL5A should also throw further and runtime should also be longer due to the more efficient LED.

:goodjob: Surefire!

And thanks to DaFABRICATA for posting this(Even though I personally don't have a Surefire).

Re: SUREFIRE KL5 UPDATED--KL5A---PICS ADDED

Beamshots added!!

KL5 on left ..............KL5A on right

WOW it is pretty bright!

You can see a difference....the KL5A is brighter and a MUCH better beam:thumbsup:

Funny thing is.....I told Surefire I wanted the original bezel fixed and sent back because I liked the tint (and it was my 1st SF)
They told me it would take longer to fix than replace, But I wanted the same one back. Anyway, after waiting so long I called about a couple weeks ago and told them to just send me a replacement as I didn't want to wait any longer. The rep. told me they were getting a new batch of KL5's in on the 17th and it would ship as soon as they were received.

I'm keepin it:twothumbs:thumbsup:
