Thinking about "how much CPF thought me" and getting some remorse over this:
Here is my latest mod, a Panasonic headlamp, originally with krypton mini-bulb and three
ugly, tinty, blueish 5mm leds.
This is what turned out, after a painful reflector removal, witch whose ultrasound-welded on to the lens.

A nice 10 degree collimator, witch laid around,
on my desk, fitted like magic, into it.

a four position switch with safety lock, instead of any
electronics or driver, made it easier to modify.

A LuxeonIII took place of the old and dim bulb, with made shame of the headlight's
name. I had to cut/trim the inside of the light, where the bulb's socket whose, to make place for the led and optics. About 2 or 3 hours of drilling, filling and cutting.
A neatly cut and folded piece of a 2mm aluminum sheet made a small and well hidden heatsink. I had to add another piece of copper sheet, to raise the led and add to heat distribution.

Here is a nice "exploded" view, of the light, lens and optics. The rubber o-ring is there to
keep the optics in place, preventing it to spin while unscrewing the head.
And, as another mod, the three leds glare reflected right into my eyes, and a strip of black paint underneath the three leds solved the issue.

this shot, made at about 10 meters, on a wall, shows a 1m spot.
It has a rather nice, square, sidespill, witch extends to about 10% of the spot.
And here some more beamshots:

Three and one led, on a A4 paper.

The LuxIII on paper, also.

And at about 2 meters, on grass, at night after a light rain three and one led.
If initially, the light whose quite usable on the 5mm leds, to see as far as 10m
the bulb whose hilarious, i could see the spot, even at 50m, but seeing the spot and seeing what whose illuminated, are two very different things.
Absolutely useless, until the LED came by, and said "hello"
With my eyes, now, is usefull up to 50-70m... but that is about to change as I'll throw away that stinky LuxIII for a much nicer Cree Q5 or better.
Perhaps, I'll change the three 5mm's , for warm white leds or 1 warm white and two 0.5W 5mm... maybe a dimmer/controller would be in plan, but later.
Greets ya all!
