Yeah, same here. Everything works fine including the dreaded pop up.

Re: Anyone having trouble accessing Surefire websi

Site comes up fine here. No popups for me...I use Mozilla! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Anyway, you might try a traceroute (tracert in Win*) to determine if it is a routing issue or a DNS issue. If you get an error saying that the name (www.surefire.com) cannot be resolved, it's a DNS issue...most likely with whatever nameserver you are using.

Sorry for the technical mumbo jumbo...I'm in work mode!

Thanks G!mpy,

Doesn't appear to be a DNS problem as the IP address is being resolved, I just get a blank page.

If I select "View Source" I get this:

<HTML><HEAD><title>Surefire</TITLE></HEAD>
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--

function SymError()
{
return true;
}

window.onerror = SymError;

var SymRealWinOpen = window.open;

function SymWinOpen(url, name, attributes)
{
return (new Object());
}

window.open = SymWinOpen;

//-->
</script>

<body onload="var SymTmpWinOpen = window.open; window.open = SymWinOpen; window.location='http://www.san.surefire.com/cgi-bin/main.pl?pgm=co_disp&func=displ&pgrfnbr=16&sesent=0,0; window.open = SymTmpWinOpen;"></body>
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--

window.open = SymRealWinOpen;

//-->
</script>

</HTML>

Mentions some form of system error /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Why waste $$$ on an additional piece of software to stop popups when you can just use another browser: Mozilla, Phoenix, Opera, Galeon, Konquer, or several others...

Heh, heh! Why install another zillion megabyte browser to stop popups when a 400kb freeware popup stopper is effective? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Opera is just a hair over 3M. Mozilla is about 10M. I believe Phoenix is about the same size as Opera. Plus, nice browsers like Opera don't support crappy ActiveX.

That's about fighting the browser war, not stopping popups. You need to start a new thread for that.

Loaded fine for me too, and Pop-Up Stopper made that characteristic "thwump" sound, stopping whatever pop-up they have now. (I'm using IE v6.026 for browsing, Pop-Up Stopper v2.9, and Netscape v4.79 for email).

SureFire's website came up fine by clicking on the link in x-ray's first message. Maybe they got slashdotted and crashed due to server overload.

Re: Anyone having trouble accessing Surefire websi

Does anyone know if Opera has a free version? When I last visited their website a week or so ago, all links to download it had an associated "purchase now" button. Since Mozilla, Netscape 7, and IE 6 are all essentially free, I cannot justify "purchasing" a browser. Please advise me as I would like to give Opera a spin as I haven't yet tried it.

TIA,

Ed

You can download the free version of Opera, the only difference is that it has sponsor ads... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yep, just have to live with the ads. Thus far, they have not been bad.

x-ray, I've the same problem as you. And also for some other sites, it just won't load for me.

I thought it might be a browser problem and downloaded Mozilla, still get exactly the same result (blank page) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Can you give a link to one of the other sites that you can't get into so I can give it a try, just interested to see if we both have exactly the same problem.

That site works fine for me.

I now know it's a browser/pc issue as I can access the surefire website from my laptop (via the same DSL line/ISP).
