I sourced some cheap superflux locally, I am wondering if these guys are capable of out shining the nichas. I looked at the datasheet, it says 90 to 110 degrees of angle which is really SuperFlood. If I put them into reflectors will I be able to re-focus the light nicely?

Anyone played with them before?

Craig looked at some here:

Johnathan Edelson put together a slick mod for a bike light based on superflux leds:

Which was also put to the test by Craig here:

Were you thinking about these reflectors? I don't think they would fit very well:

But it might be worth trying with some of the Luxeon optics...

I have played around with these, too. Six or seven of the
green, blue, or cyan ones in parallel work very well with one of the small 1W MicroPucks. I haven't tried focusing the beam with a reflector or optics, I was trying for a flood rather than a spot light. Another good use, I modified one of the small plug-in fluorescent "night light", by removing all original components (saving two caps anad two 110 ohm resistors)
and using a 2.2 uF cap and a 1/8 A picofuse in series with the hot side of the line, a full wave rectifier, 100 uF 50V cap and a 39VAC MOV, to power nine of the cyan "spiders" in series. Much brighter, longer lived and lower cpower consumption of the original fluorescent circuit.

I haven't yet seen any white "hi flux" units available, I sullose red, green and blue could be combined.
