3W Ultrafire WF-601A 1-Mode Cree Flashlight (2xAA):

Ultrafire C3 Cree Q5 LED Flashlight with Extension (1.5V~4.2V):
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10727

ROMISEN RC-P3 CREE Side Switch 1-Mode LED Flashlight (2xAA):

Romisen RC-W4 Cree LED Flashlight (3xAAA):
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10711

Now I think my main concern here is build quality and battery life because I'm pretty sure these will all be fairly bright lights(for size/battery/price).
I'm thinking maybe one of the Romisen's because I have heard better things about their builds than the Ultrafire's. Any advice?
I'm also open to suggestions as long as it uses 2 or 3 aa or aaa's, is 6.5 inches or less, metal and fairly cheap.

I had a very good experience with the Romisen RC-N3 until I butchered it... Great light for the price really. Only single mode but still great.

Have a look at Bessiebennies excellent thread on budget lights.
Link. https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/194635

Other more experienced members will provide more advise than myself.

BTW. Try to avoid 3aaa lights if you can.

They are usual "direct drive", i.e. no electronic in the light.

They will be very bright on new batteries, but drop fast to a lower output.

Electronic regulated light (most light with more or less than 3 batteries) will often be stable in light output until the batteries are nearly drained.

Edit:
I forgot to mention that they usual have a battery container for the 3 batteries and that container does not improve on reliability.

thanks, didnt know that. Well, the rc-n3 got great reviews and seems to be right up my alley, that may be the light I go for.

I might get another one too just to keep in a car or whatever.

I butchered it by trying to clean the metal ring around the emitter. In the process I dislodged the clear dome covering it and damaged the clear silicone that was holding it on:ohgeez:(It can happen to any similar LED light not just the RC-N3). The result is a less than stellar beam as the silicone was crystal clear no more...

It was silly and it will not happen again to me. I will order another P4 or maybe a Q5 emitter from DX and put it right.

Do you know of any similar flashlight with a hi/lo mode? I would ideally like something that had the option of getting up to 8-10 hours as well.

If your want to step up to quality flashlights, take a look at Fenix L1T and L2T.

Your can get them here: http://www.fenix-store.com/ and use the discount code "cpf8". If your live en Europe, it might be better to get them from UK (depending on customs).

thanks, but I am in the market for something budget. In an ideal world I would love to have the fenix l2d, but I just can't afford it. I will have to be content for the time being with my e01 and whatever budget light I can afford. I think I am settling on the rc-n3, but I am still seeing if I can find something a little less bright with a little longer battery life, 8-10 hours seems ideal to me, but it wouldn't hurt to have a high mode option that halfs that.
