Just got my 5 mode MTE P7 light from DX today and when on the med or high, the light cuts out after 5 seconds or so. Tried 2 different batteries and still the same problem. Anybody else have this problem? Anybody got a fix?

See my wisecrack in the other thread. (Are you sure you aren't in the ultra slow, SOS mode?) Cutting-out for excessive temperature would entail some advanced circuitry on the driver and a temp sensor.

Have you tried connecting the battery directly with a piece of metal to eliminate possible tailcap problems?

As you stated in the other thread, there is a gap between the emitter and the star, that is going to cause huge thermal problems, the emitter needs to be in perfect contact with the star, usually soldered but you may be able to use some Arctic Alumina to remount it.
Personally I'd definitely be sending it back from whence it came.

Thanks folks, I'm just going to send it back. Yep, I'm sure it's not SOS BTW;) I tried bypassing the switch also and it was still cutting out.
