Could somebody please explain the following:

1) LED Bin Ratings
2) what an MCD is
3) how X degrees Kelvin helps determine color
4) Beam Angle (is it as simple as it sounds?)

Sorry if these have already been posted. I appreciate your help. Thank you very much.

1) don't know
2) MCD = milicandela. It is a way to determine how bright the led was. Usually, it was measured at a distance 1 feet from the led. The way lux and Mcd was measured was very similar.
3) The degrees of temperature was based upon the black body radiation. The hotter the object was, the color changing from red to a more bluish color. eg: Sunlight has color temperature of around 6000 K, etc.
4) Beam Angle. Yes, it is as simple as it sounds. Basicly, if you put the led in the middle of a protractor (on the 90 degrees axis), the beam angle is the angle the led's hotspot made based on the protractor. For example, 20 degrees beam angle will have 10 degrees to the left of teh protractor and 10 degrees to the right of it.

I am sure others can explain more clearly than me

Here is my understanding of Luxeon bin codes. Corrections are always welcome /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Note that the flux below is in lumens (a measure of total light emitted) FYI, lux is lumens per square meter, see Common Light Measurement Terms for a detailed explaination.

Tint Wavelength . Beam Color
1 . . 4500 - 5000k green
2 . . 5000 - 5500k green tint
3 . . 5500 - 6000k white
4 . . 6000 - 7000k blue tint
5 . . 7000 - 8000k purple

Flux . . . . . . Vf 1 watt Luxeon
M 14-18 . . . H 3.03 - 3.27
N 18-23 . . . J 3.27 - 3.51
P 23-30 . . . K 3.51 - 3.75
Q 30-40 . . . L 3.75 -
R 40-53
S 53-67

Flux . . . . . . . . . Vf 5 watt
U 87-113 . . . . . R 5.43 - 5.91
V 113-147 . . . . S 5.91 - 6.39
W 147-192. . . . T 6.39 - 6.87

Anyone can explain, what is the connection between flux and lux or lumens?
