And a special thanks to those who are currently serving.

This may well be the worst time ever to serve in the US military. Unrealistic rules of engagement, afteraction legal actions based upon the politics of appeasement, inadequate equipment, repeated and prolonged deployments (google "stop loss") all make this like something from Kafka.

I am amazed and humbled by the job they're doing.

I'll save the other 364 days of the year (and especially Veteran's Day) to thank all veteran's. For this weekend I want to especially remember that very special class of veteran, those who never came home from war. The more than 650,000 American men and women who have died in battle, and the families that mourned them, are not forgotten. I remember also those from other countries who laid down their lives shoulder to shoulder with them.

baterija, that's right and well said.

Memorial Day is for those that didn't come back. Veterans Day is for the rest of us.

But give thanks every day that a special few are willing to do and give so much.

+1 They deserve the same generous GI bill enjoyed by previous VFWs.

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.

Far braver men than I .......

---------------

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Eulogy for a Veteran

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on the snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle Autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

To those who gave all. You are not forgotten.

Nice to see this thread, I'll personally say "Thank you!" and indeed pass my own appreciation on to those who have served in the past, are serving now, and will serve in the future.

Additionally, appreciation to those service member's families, friends, as well as everyone that contributes support in so many other ways in civilian life.

I posted this back in 2004:

"DREAMING OF AMERICA"

A sudden chill runs down my spine,
As I gaze upon the sky;
Old Glory waves like a warrior's shield,
As our jets are blazing by.

I start to dream of years ago,
When men had fought and died;
I wonder how their families felt,
How long they must have cried.

That little boy who lost his dad,
Is suffering so much pain;
We have to help him understand,
He didn't die in vain.

Tears fill my eyes, roll down my cheeks,
When I think of what he gave;
We must not let this soldier down,
Our freedom, he fought to save.

Now the jets have gone, the Flag is still,
But I know I'm not alone;
I have the Lord above to thank,
That America is my home.

Happy Memorial Day!!!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY ALL CPF USERS!!!
I know this day isn't all about the unofficial kick-off to summer, barbecues, and stuff - but if that's how you celebrate Memorial Day, that's fine too. :)

Thank you to all American servicemen who have sacrificed themselves in order to make America the "land of the free". :thanks:
