Surefire G2/3 LED.

Hi guys just found this fourm.

I currently have a Surefire G2 Xenon flashlight and am interested in the G3 LED but a concern i have is that the throw won't be as good as the xenon G2 version i.e. there will be more of a flood light effect than a focussed long distance beam.

Can anyone shed any light on this (pardon the pun).

If it's throw you are after, you would be better off with a drop in installed in your g2. Check out DealXtreme or Kaidomain.

The Surefire drop in(p60L) reflector is to shallow for throw and is more for run time then output. The aftermarket drop ins have a deeper reflector with Cree R2 LED.

What he said. There are throwier P60 modules out there. If throw is the only thing you want out of the beam, try to find one with a smooth reflector.

You would be better served by DX.

You don't have to spend a lot to find out for yourself...

DX 6090, DX 11621, DX 11836, etc (www.dealextreme.com)

There are even better options when your ready.

Basically i'm a UK cop and at the moment my G2 is just too thirsty on batteries, so i want an LED equivalent and don't really mind how much it costs (within reason).

So my criteria for the drop in would be

Minimum of 3 hours run time.
At least 100 lumens.
Good throw with a bit of spill.

If someone could point me directly to a product based on the above that would be great!

How about a Malkoff M60L
4.5 hrs runtime
140 lumens
Has a nice balance between spill and throw.

I guess i'm looking for something that is an average room lighter and medium to long spotter.

If you do your own mods then use these items.
This for throw
This board for regulation Powered by 1, 17670 protected cell.
Use this LED Installed in the above reflector.

If you do not do your own mods, just buy the R2 module and the smooth reflector above. When you receive the order, swap the smooth reflector with the orange peel and your set.

The advantage of the mod instead of the drop in is better regulation, output, and will run at full power better then the drop ins circuit.

A Dereelight 1-SM-2 with a smooth reflector would fit the bill.

Sir, with a G2 I doubt you can do better than the M60L as already suggested.

It's a premier high quality, long runtime drop-in.

I don't know of another P60 drop-in that produces 140+ lum output for 4-5 hrs while only drawing 350mA from 6v. It's basically a "custom, handmade unit."

The Dereelight module draws 1000A from it's battery source which for a G2 will be 6v.

I don't see any way it can compete with the M60L runtime of over 4 hrs in regulation. In fact, I doubt you'd get 2 hrs. at full output.

I'm sure others will comment.

It mentions the M60L has a dark ring around the hot spot before it tapers of, does anyone have any beamshots of this to illustrate exactly what this looks like?

Also, is this drop in compatible with the 9p and G3?

Yes, The M60L will work with up to 9 volts. It won't be any brighter, just have a longer run time. I run one in my G3.
Try one, Gene stands 100% behind his products. I think they are one of the best drop-ins money can buy. The beam is a central hot-spot which blends into a very usable spill.

That dark ring is the only noticable artifact in real life. And then only when indoors shining it at a wall. Outdoors it's really not noticable at all.
