Your E1E can be upgraded with Surefire's own KX1 head unit, with an output of 45 lumens.

Come over to the light side and enjoy the colour-rendering goodness of glowing tungsten...

You'll need one of these

...and one of these

... and a 3.7v Li-ion RCR123a charger.

This will give you just under 60 Surefire lumens in a compact, rechargeable package. Is that any good to you?

That sounds like a pretty good upgrade for the E1E. What is the runtime using that setup?

What is the runtime using that setup?

From the LF page:
Runtime (RCR123A): ~30 min
Runtime (17670 Rec.): ~70 min

I have the same lamp in an E2E using a 17670.
To me the beam is indistinguishable from the factory SF MN02 lamp. And with a 17670 runtime is almost identical to the E2E's stock runtime on primaries.

You can replace the existing E1E head with either of these:

http://www.opticshq.com/page/Optics/PROD/Flashlights/FL-TLS-TX1
http://www.opticshq.com/page/Optics/PROD/Flashlights/FL-TLS-TX2

For the E2 replacement LED head, you should drive it with a 3.7V Li-ion RCR123A cell for best results.

CPF has several reviews of these two products. For example:

https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/187677
https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/187582

stupid question -do those come with the head itself or just a drop-in type?

The OpticsHQ products completely replace the existing SF head. The OpticsHQ heads come assembled and incorporate an LED emitter, reflector, driver board, anodized aluminum head, and glass window. Unscrew the SF head, screw on the OpticsHQ head.

Koala LED drop in mini tower?
keep your head

This is nice upgrade, especially if you want to keep the low profile of the stock E1E. At about 80 lumens, the Koala in a 1x123 body has a very good output to size ratio (even better if you use a VG FB1 body). And the beam is nice and floody, with a small but usable hot spot. This combo is one of my favorites in my EDC rotation.
