Surefire G2 with Lumens Factory EO-9

How would a Lumens Factory EO-9 do in a Surefire G2? Along with two AW RCR123 protected rechargeable batteries.

Is there anything I would have to worry about regarding the high output lamp?

As far as I can tell, the general concensus is that the EO-9 draws too much current to safely use with RCR123s. It seems like the HO-9 is the considered safer alternative.

Welcome to CPF....

It is not recommended to use the EO-9 with two RCR123 cells due to the very short run times and possible stress and damage to the cells.

Use the HO-9 instead, you'll be pretty happy with the results.

The EO-9 puts out a lot of heat, I would not be comfortable using one in the nitrolon head on a G2

If you already bought your EO-9, I have an extra new in box HO-9 that I was looking to trade for an EO-9 for use in my Wolf Eyes Raider. I have a trade thread over in marketplace or just PM me if you're interested.

I have two G2's and I like them but what is so special about them that there are so many threads full of people trying to shoehorn killer modules in them? Just use them for what they were intended for! Rattling around in your engine compartment until you need it, or sitting in the bottom of your toolbox or next to the bilge pump in puddle of oil! :nana:

Or keep it and get yourself a 2x 18650 body and end up with a first class outfit. I made up two of these for my sons and they love them......

Wattnot, thanks for the offer but I never ordered the EO-9.

The E0-9 dims pretty fast on 3 primaries, so I would expect it to deliver a lot less lumens than advertised if you chose to run it on two R123s.

I agree, A g2 is best served with a long life lamp assembly of some sort. Save the high power modules for a metal bodied light with pyrex window. G2 windows are lexan, and liable to melt with a really hot incan lamp if run for too long. Sometimes though folks already have one and don't want to invest in a new light. There's no problem with it as long as they're used only for a minute or so at a time.

I've found that running the EO-9 on RCR123s is not really worth all the hassle involved with doing it safely. And it will wear out cells pretty fast. Don't bother trying.

Get a 17670 and an HO-4 or a pair of RCR123s and a ES-9 for the G2.

Get a 2x18500 or 2x18650 tactical light, and pimp it out with a EO-9 or P91

As mdocod says, this is really not a good idea at all - not because of any heat problems, but because the EO-9 will under-perform with R123 cells and will wreck them pretty quickly too.
