Re: KX2 w/rcr123's ?

Can I run my KX2 head on RCR's?

It'll definitely run on two 3.0v R123As, provided you have a body tube that hasn't been rigged to prevent the use of rechargeables.

I did see some reports that the single-level KX2 will work on two 3.6v R123As, but I don't know if this still applies to dual level KX2s or if SF removed the feature.

Re: KX2 w/rcr123's ?

I have both the orig. version Cree E2L (single stage) and the newer version (2-stage). I've run them both on primaries and on a 17670 (which apparently not all E2L bodies are wide enough to accept), but not yet on 2xRCR123As (2 x 3.7v). In the early reviews of the Cree E2L/KX2, one CPFer saw a reduction in output after trying 2xRCR123As in his and believed they'd caused some damage. There have been later reports that they work fine and no problems. x2x3x2 even has a review up with runtime charts using 2xRCR123As: http://light-reviews.com/surefire_e2l/review.html

So, I'd love to know the definitive answer myself, and whether it might be safer on the newer version than on the original. If your research finds that answer, I hope you'll post it.

Does the E1B head have the same circuitry as the KX2 (2 stage). I tried running the Backup head on an 18500 (for a short time only) and the brightness dims and pulses...

RCR123 3.7 v won't work in the E1B. You'll get a slow strobe effect. The circuitry is different than the KX2 and E2DL heads.

I run a RCR123 in my E1B and only get a flicker for about half a minute after installing the batteries fresh from the charger. After that, no problems.

You're probably using a 3.0 v RCR. Some CPFers do that and run it on high to burn off a little charge at the beginning. But if you try with a 3.7 v battery, it won't work.
