I took some pictures and I couldn't really tell if there was a difference, I kind of thought the aa were brighter but I'm such a novice at this that I couldn't really trust my observation. I do know that the only reason I would use the aa version would be for extended rechargeable nimh battery useage. I love the small form with the lithium battery with the click or twistie version of the tailpack.

They should be the same brightness because of the improved current regulation found in all Arc-LS units made in the past 6 months.

The single AA holder was part of the first run Arc-LS that used an 'old'-design converter to power the ls. The current design will not work properly with a single AA-cell because of the higher current draw and higher minimum input voltage (to protect rechargeables from deep discharge).
