My son will be in Chang Mai for at least 3 years and motor bikes are the form of transport any thoughts on brand or models?
A little background from a chat.
Dru: I'm struggling to get funds together for my motorbike. Not because of money, but because of the ATM bottleneck

Herb: Can't pay by Debit Card?

Dru: I think I paid like $15 for decent exterior on my minibarn.
I don't know--Rick[co-worker] didn't make it sound like I could.

Herb: How much for motor bike?

Dru: New? $1000
Everyone, even Kiat, [{conservative}Local]is saying that I should get new--there can be unpleasant surprises at times otherwise
I think we'll go somewhere that has both old and new for sale
I could get one for $500, but it is seven years old

Herb: Listen to advice I'd say
What makers?

Dru: I think we are planning on a Honda Dream
Reliable, fairly inexpensive
It's not a facy one by any stretch, but a good one
They have Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha

Herb: Better than a Honda nightmare :)

Dru: I remember reading a tourists' guidebook talking about the dangers of driving motorbikes and shattered Dreams

Herb: BAd quote.
Makes me think of Burnell :(

Dru: :-(

Herb: BE careful

Dru: We are trying
:-|

Herb: no 'incidents' I take it?

Dru: Nope
And we wear helmets

Herb: Fast and Pray. NOT talking about motorbikes!!!

His response to this and getting a dime out of a Fenix

Dru: Thanks for all your sage counsel
BTW: The main reason I liked the idea of a used motor bike is because labor is so incredibly cheap around here

Herb: Breakdowns in the middle of nowhere are not fun, even if you have a flashlight and knife
