before they split with Kai, DX used to list Lux on their flashlgihts.

currently, most of their flashlights have pics of it turned on. ie: rc-g2 [link removed by moderator]

how much harder is it to setup the pic shot at 1m, and take a Lux reading while they are at it?

Edit:
Changed Lumens to Lux.

That's now how you measure lumens. An integrating sphere is VERY expensive. If they have the information, they do commonly list manufacturer rated lumens.

integrating sphere?
i assume they have one since they used to list the Lumens.

manufacturer rated lumens:
yeah, i would take those #'s with a grain of salt. thus why i would like to see DX do their own readings.

DX does not own an integrating sphere, and never have. Most manufacturers don't even own one since they are so prohibitively expensive. DX has only ever listed manufacturer rated lumens, or lux at 1 meter.

I have a new NiteCore DX10 rated at 130 lumens and a Fenix P1D CE Q4 rated at 135 lumens on max. Side by side, you'd think they'd be more or less the same, but the Fenix is clearly significantly brighter.

ahh... i think i'm using the wrong term.

Lux is what i'm looking for.

So why doesnt DX list lux at 1meter anymore?

Probably because it's not very telling of how bright a light is. It only tells you how well a light can throw, not how much total light it puts out.

agree with marduke here...

Lux doesnt really give you alot of useful information about a light. You can guess certain outputs, but its too dependent on the design of the reflector/optic to throw that it doesnt help us to know how bright it actually is.

however, lux reading for thier throwers would help...
