Gas turbine, somewhat similar. This one actually saw street use.

won't pass smog though. and it's not so fuel efficient. Due in part to the turbine, and the 60 ton curb weight.
Unfortunately jet engines are not practical for road use. They need to see high speeds to make power. But still, crazyness.:duh2:

Nothing practical about these cars. They're all show, i.e. adrenalin rush.
To be honest images and video don't do them justice. They have to be seen (felt) in person for the full experience. I've seen dozens of them, and I never get tired of seeing them again.

Oh yeah (que kool-aid guy), They still can't beat piston power off the line though.
You're right there. Top Fuel is king in the quarter mile.
Actually, I'd rather see Top Fuel cars then jets at the track. But jets up close have to be experienced at least once before you die.

I remember there was a truck with a triple engine setup that did the Quonset (pretty much next-door to Inova HQ) Air Show when I was a kid. The Shockwave.

They used to race the prop stunt planes with it. It's probably a bit faster now, but that's still pretty respectable. Some of the prop guys are kinda nutty about what they jam into those things. I saw an issue of Aero Trader showcasing a almost completely carbon fiber plane powered by a very large single turbo LS-1. But it was almost a yearly thing. I haven't gone in a while. But I used to love to go and see that thing, and the A10's. Pretty much the only reasons I went.

Use a large turbo from a tractor trailer plus incorporate an afterburner and you should be able to push a go-kart up to a pretty decent speed.

It is so efficient. More fuel efficient than the original VW Beetle...pound for pound. :naughty:
It's a little heavier for the A1 too. 60 tons was for the original M1 variant. Latest M1A2 SEP is about 69 tons. The weight gain is about the same as adding the weight of 4 Ford Explorers.
