Hi guys,
Okay, I've spent some time with a Nitecore DX GD as well as an SF 6pL.

I prefer the Nitecore's versatility--it is a fantastic product! The 6pl on the other hand, ooozes more quality--but is waaaay too bright and wide-focused for my needs. It'll be great for a walk in the pitch black mountains one day, though, or something like that.

And... even though I recommend both, I find both of them too short for my perfect light.

I know what I want in a light now:

1. narrow beam--or narrowER beam.
2. At least 3 levels of light. Preferably one that ramps high to low.
3. 100 lumens is more than enough, but more is okay at peak.
4. Around the SIZE of a MINI MAG. (important! too short, no good.)
5. Surefire quality level, but does not have to be SF.

That would do it for me.

(I still have the Ra Clicky 100 cn coming because it is so damn cool, but I can already tell, it will likely be too short for my 'perfect' light)

What would you advise for my Criteria--and just to make it the most fun--let's say I have no price limit. I might not spend the limit, but I'd like to hear the full list of lights you'd recommend.

Thanks!

You didn't mention what battery you wanted but Jetbeam has several compact throwy lights that have variable output. Here are a few: http://www.bugoutgearusa.com/jetproiiiibs.html
http://www.bugoutgearusa.com/jetiipro.html
http://www.bugoutgearusa.com/jetipro.html

They are among the brightest lights for a given battery format.

EDIT: just looked up how long a MM actually is so my recommendations might be too short still. Fenix makes a couple of 2-AA lights that may work for you: https://www.fenix-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=195

Thanks Superflynt.

I would use any kind of batteries.

I looked at those Fenix's. Great lights, but only two levels of light? I'd like at least three--or ramping lowest to highest--even better.

Thanks Superflynt

I just re-read the Fenix info--three outputs--that might be a good choice.
Cool.

+1 for the JetBeams; their IBS interface system gives you three output modes *that you set*, meaning each of your three "levels" can be anything - a high/medium/low, a low/high/strobe, etc.

The Fenix models are a solid choice, but the larger models have six output modes, with the strobe and SOS modes interspersed between them, plus you must turn the bezel to switch between higher/lower modes. I find the Fenix interface to be stilted and awkward now that I've gotten used to JetBeam's IBS..

Keep in mind that the Jetbeams will throw quite a bit farther than the Fenix L2D due to their slightly larger reflectors. The TK20 will also throw farther than the L2D (but not as far as the JB's).

The 18650 Jetbeam is probably long enough for you, has 3 user-adjustable output levels and has that larger reflector which gives it great throw. I'd go with that one if I were you.

Both lights are very good quality...................
