Does anyone know how to mod a 6p lamp assembly to fit a laser diode in it or is there any *dropins* or heads that can be attached to the front to accomodate a laser

Surefire makes a laser conversion for the older weaponlights that share a thread spec with the 6P.
Brace yourself, they cost like $700. The IR module is close to a grand.
As to aftermarket dropins, never seen one before.

I believe lasers are measured by wavelength. I'm assuming since red is closest to the IR spectrum they measure it that way?

That's kinda funny, I had a thought the other day after I finished my HDS laser mod that a P60 laser dropin would be pretty cool. Maybe I'll have to stop thinking and get working on it.
