Surefire Digital Lumamax L4 with AA or AAA???

Hello guys,

is it possible to run a Surefire L4 with three or four aa rechargeable batteries? (approx. 3,6-4,5 V)
I´d like to built a adapter of my own in order to save some bucks.

Or will i damage the led?

I know that the 17670 is supposed to fit but nevertheless.

Please help me

It does take 2 litiums, so I wouldn't worry about too much power with 4 NiMH, might even be not enough. Don't take my word though.
