is the Coleman 2AA direct drivin from the 2AA batteries, or does it have some type of regulator? i know the 2x CR2 has a resistor.

you can't run a CREE LED on 3V?
on the 2x CR2 it is running direct drive, except for a resistor.
on the 2x CR2 it is running direct drive, except for a resistor.

3v direct drive will barely make a Cree glow. There is a boost circuit.

hmm, i thought LEDs run on 3.6v, how much voltage do you need to make the CREE full power?

so your saying, you will barely light a CREE with 3v, but with .6v more you can be at full power?, doesnt seem right to me

That's how LED's work. Their current vs voltage curve is very steep.

ok, what are some good cree lights, the coleman is my first, and its almost the brightest.

There are countless hundreds of lights with modern high output emitters. Which one is best for you depends a lot on what you light, what you want your light for, how you use it, and how much you are willing to spend.
