felt like documenting the build..so here goes.

Tesing the guts and setting voltage+current w/dvm.
had to get creative with the wiring..not much real estate for all this stuff.


Cutting the m@g switch tower.


Making the switch momentary for d2dim use.

cut reflector reinstalled back into head.


All finished.


d2dim on low


hotspot on high.. 6D NIMH pulling 2.6 amps on startup..settles around 2.85
once temperature stabilizes.

I'm doing something similar with a 2D mag and Li-Ions.
Agree with DW's drivers, they work very well. I'm still waiting for my D2DIMM's from cutter. Single mode till then.

How did you eliminate the doughnut hole in you beamshots? Just slightly de-focused or am I missing something?

Heh, you should get 6hrs at max on NiMH's with that rig :huh:.

Nice hotspot. The hotspot of mine seems to be not correctly centered.

unfortunately my cell phone camera overexposed the shot. The donut hole is present with the stock mag reflector.

i have a MOP reflector and an UCL that will be going into this light later today. That will clean up the beam a bit.

Great thread....what cells you using?

And could you leave the switch stock and do light clicks and then latch it by depressing fully?

beam with mop and ucl - underexposed.
this is the focusable $14 KD MOP/cam/camless and the KD UCL.
i'm very impressed with this reflector on the p7.

for batts..
i only have 4 accupower 10K lsd..currently using them in a 3D direct drive p7.
i'm planning on ordering 2 more and move all 6 to this light..and put the
"gasp" energizer D's in the 3D.

Raoul_Duke, the D2DIM requires that you convert the switch to momentary, as the switch is separate from the power circuit. it wont work stock as it would send power to the wrong part of the d2dim module.

if you just wanted single mode high(buck only, no dimming module), you
could run power through the switch and it will latch on just like normal.

Do you mind fixing the pictures in the first post? I can't see them, your pics in post 6 work fine.
