My short Streamlight Microstream doesn't have a low output mode, so often times I hold it in the normal thumb-on-clicky grip, and cover the beam with my curled up pinky so that no light escapes. Makes a surprisingly useful red glow for retaining night vision and not blinding people in a movie theater.
