Well, yes it will fit inside. No it will not work.
The x80 lamp assembly reflector is larger than a P60 (D26) and smaller than the D36 size.
I tried both in my 8NX. I could not get the P60 to light and the LF D36 bulb was too large to fit inside. I did recently read that someone was able to get his P60 to light in one with the bezel screwed all the way down. It may work in the AX but it didnt in my NX.

I use P60 style incan dropins in both my 8X and 8AX. I just takes a bit of tinkering with the length of the springs.
My next step will be to bore out the opening inside the heads to allow LED dropins to fit.

Could you explain just what you did to which spring in order to make it work and what run time did you get from the batt with the Malkoff drop in?

The 6P bezel can't be used with the 8AX.
