Tip for removing powder from alkaline leak

Recently discovered that Method daily shower cleaner available from Target removes that white powder generated by alkaline battery leaks.

I picked up an Eveready Captain that worked with 3 batteries. When I unscrewed the back, the spring was embedded in the rear alkaline battery. When I removed the battery, the spring was covered with the white powder residue left by leaking alkaline batteries. I started scraping off the powder. When I decided that this was taking too long, I applied Method and the powder completely dissolved. After applying the cleaner, make sure you dry out the treated parts.

Bathroom Tile Cleaner "RCL" -short for rust, calcium, lime.. does a good job too.

Thanks for these tips. I've got a couple lights I use to drain batteries that need better clean-up.

vinegar works good also... I would guess any dilute acid would neutralize the base residue that alkalines leak.
