P2D on Direct Drive? REALLY?

I saw some posts that the P2D goes into direct drive when using a RCR.

Is this really true, or does it just go to the maximum regulated setting?

I wonder what happens if you bypass the driver and truly drive the emitter with the RCR.

Has anyone tried this yet?

So, it's only the first 10 minutes that are direct drive?

That's the path it seems to follow, compared to the Orb Raw on direct drive:

Will the other lower modes work after this 10 minutes of burn?

My P2D with a Cree P4 showed pretty much the same output with a RCR123. But, in actuallity the outputs were not the same. I saw this when I took lux readings in a lightbox. When I put a Q5 in it, I was surprised. The 3 outputs in general mode were half the output in turbo. My PD20 exibits the same behavior. Doesn't appear to be direct drive to me.

I just tried a P2D with a GDP that I have. Same results, turbo puts out about twice what the three in general mode do.
