AA LED on an AR-15

My buddy is looking for a high-powered AA light for this M4gery. He wants a AA powered package to maintain commonality with his AA powered optic.

Can anyone suggest a package that meets as many of the following requirements as possible;

• 2xAA battery
• 1-mode forward tactical clicky (or ability to buy a 1-mode pill)
• Q5 emitter
• Oversized reflector assembly

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've already begun a search for him, but am just not feeling like I've covered all the possible scenarios. For example, some Fenix models seem to fit the bill, but I'm not sure if I can get a 1-mode version.

All TK models from Fenix has just one mode on the button and it is a forward switch. The actual selection between high/medium is done by turning the head.

Dereelight is another good light, where your can select a 1 mode pill.

The TK20 would fit the bill. If you just keep the head tight (or loose) it stays in one mode and no possible combination of clicks will change it. It has decent throw, and a warm tint to better see and identify anything he's pointing it at...


He can slip off the rubber grip if it helps the gun mount fit better.


The E20 might also qualify.

He could wait for these to hit the market. No over sized reflector but will make a nice weapons light. :

Try a Surefire 9p with a dereelight single mode drop-in to suit that voltage(3v or less).Drop in a piece of pvc that has an outside diameter of a 9p inside diameter and inside the tube drop in 2 aa's. I'd use eneloops.Plus a 6p/9p looks at home on a ar15.

I'm not finding any info on the Fenix TK 25. And I can't find a Dereelight that runs on AAs.

Will a SF 9P properly fit 2xAAs?

Sorry about that, I did not see the AA part.
He probably mean Fenix TK20 that uses 2*AA.

Olight also has a T25 tactial with 2 AA batteries and mode change by turning the head, i.e. the switch does not change mode.
Same goes for iTP C8 tactical.

If it has to be AA light, then my vote is for the Fenix TK20 as well.

The Fenix TK20 might be a good choice. It doesn't have a Cree XR-E Q5, but the warm tinted Q2 they use might work as well as the Q5.

The Olight T25 tactical and iTP C8 tactical might work.

If you get a piece of pvc from the hardware store that slips into the 9p with an internal diameter that will fit aa's it will.

Look for the Dereelight pill that has a 2.7v to 4.2v input and it will work.

You sure? Two fully charged AA cells are just barely 2.7v, and will bottom out at ~1.8v when discharged.

TK20. Wrapping smaller diameter cells into a body doesn't ever equal reliability.

Granted a PVC sleeve is better than wrapping but I have never had any issues.

Baselessly insinuating that I'm mechanically incompetent? Hmm.

And a PVC sleeve is less reliable than a properly fitting battery tube.

What is this module?

Thanks for all the input guys. I have narrowed it down to the below choices. It is a fairly long list, so help me chop it further. I'd like to know your opinions of overall quality;

1. Fenix TK20
2. Olight T25-T
3. NiteCore D20
4. EagleTac P10A2
5. iTP C8T Tactical

I'm leaning NiteCore due to "perceived quality" and conservative lumen ratings. Would that be a prudent decision?

NiteCore is the only one without a forward switch and when pressing the switch your may change light output. I also has a recessed switch.

The Fenix TK20 is thicker than the other lights and has a bigger reflector.
