Noob Alert!!

I'm going to be modding my first light. It is a Dorcy 3-D running a 1 Watt Luxeon LED. Need some help with the LED calculations.

Base Light:

41-4250 1 Watt 3D Led Flashlight

Current LED:
http://www.luxeonstar.com/luxeon-st...an-45-lm-350ma-p-218.php?link_str=1385&id=342
LUMILEDS Luxeon
* LXHL-MW1D
* 45 Lumens
* 350mA
* 3.42Vf
* 5500K Color Temp

New LED:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2394
Cree Flux/Color BIN: Q5 WG
- 3.7V typical driving voltage
- Manufacturer Rated 228 Lumens at 1000mA input current:

* 350mA: 107~114lm
* 700mA: 171.2~182.4lm
* 1000mA: 214 ~ 228lm

So from the specs above, I am a little lower than I should be on the amperage and voltage. My host should be putting out 3.4volts @ 350mA.

The emitter seems to have a Resistor in the connection, but it is covered by a rubber sleeve.

My question is what is the proper procedure here. My biggest concern is blowing out the new LED before I can figure out the proper voltage/amperage to get more power out of the light. I assume I should remove the current lead with the resistor and putting a different resistor into the circuit to increase the amperage to the bulb. If this is the case, what ohm rating resistor would I need? Any FAQs on this area would be helpful too.

Thanks
