Just received my Regalight EDC today, and WOW this thing is tiny was my first thought.

God this directly from Regalight, my first flashlight from that brand, and must say overall I am very pleased with the quality of this product, cannot put my finger on anything when it comes to build quality, it is very well made, with to my eyes perfect black HAIII finish.

The light came in a bobble envelope, with the light itself in a gift-box, and with the Hawk snipe lamp bezel beside together with the holster, what we see more and more these days is an included manual, kind of funny we need a manual to operate a flashlight, but with more and more of these programmable flashlights, it is really necessary.

Just to clarify some thing, you will "lose" the Tactical Light mode, when going into Custom Brightness setting. That means this is a one mode programmable flashlight (plus the strobe and locator flash, which is preset and cannot be changed).

Personally I would have preferred at least two mode of light, one maximum preset, and one adjustable mode, but it is something that is a matter of taste, and you can pretty easy adjust the output.

The most impressive thing about this flashlight is its output, man this little flashlight can really put out some serious light, I mean really this is the most powerful 1xAA flashlight I have seen to date, to my eyes it even looks brighter than my Raidfire Spear, that is really impressive!

Well that is all I can tell by now, it is still day here in Denmark, so cannot really test the light outdoor yet, so in the mean time just enjoy these images, and is you have any questions don't hesitate to ask :).

Re: Regalight® EDC Mini Review - Pics Beamshots UPDATE: Now with more throw shots...

Now I have been out to the cold windy night to take some throw shots, sorry but did not use a tripod, so they are somewhat blurry, but I hope they are okay, and it is possible to see the overall throw of this flashlight. I have my Spear with me so you can compare the two.

overall IMO the Spear is more for me, though the EDC does throw a bit further, the Spear has a brighter and more narrow side spill, which I personally like when it comes to throw flashlight, but it is a matter of taste. After these images the EDC already began to give me the low voltage warning, did not leave it on for longer time then it took to take a picture, so this is a problem that Regalight should fix ASAP.

The UI is not my favorite, don't like the fact that you cannot turn the light on after 2 seconds, sometimes I even have it off for longer time and still it will start ramping from low to maximum, it happens quite frequent, am personally thinking about do some modding by changing the driver, that is really the only thing I do not like about this flashlight, built, beam quality, and looks is all good IMO (reminds me of an scrunched/mini 2xCR123A flashlight :)).

Anyway here are the throw shots, all with same ISO (400):

Thanks whc you have cleared one thing up nicely the modes,ah well we guessed that anyway. In the photo the hot spot looks a lot tighter than the spear that has got to be worth the mode issue IMO.Can you tell if every thing is glue free? and can you do beam shot with the op reflector? thanks,so far I'm liking what I've seen :twothumbs

No glue that I can find, so you can take out the reflector and so on. The two beamshots below the "Hawk snipe" ones is with "Normal" OP-reflector, you get some serious spill with the OP-reflector, very nice :D.

Yes kind of funny, reminds me of my previous "mod" LF3 with WF500L head:

Yes I tink the throw is worth it, the hot-spot seems tighter than my Spear, can't wait to test it when it gets dark :D.

Thanks for the size reference pics!

Can you elaborate more on the UI? Can it be set to a low output and directly accessed when turned on?

Thanks!

Yep it has pretty decent throw with the OP-reflector, though the snipe lamp gives about 5 times more throw according to my luxmeter (will post the lux readings in a sec).

Yes what a total waste of money, you should at least have received it before me. The couple of times I have paid for EMS or express shipping, it has not been worth the money IMO, maybe one day faster than normal registred mail. Hope you will get it very soon, waiting time is always slow and painful.

The UI is pretty good, personally I think they could just get writ of strobe and instead used that mode for fixed maximum, and then you would have two modes, one fixed maximum and user programmable mode that you can switch between easy.

Now when I have god some time with it, the UI is easy, and I rarely enters user defined mode by accident (you need to get exactly 2 seconds before you turn the light on to get to user defined mode).

It works, the low is not really low, I cannot see directly into the LED without getting blinded, ramping always starts from low.

Re: Regalight® EDC - Mini Review - Pics Beamshots and more...

Some lux readings, all with one protected 14500 cell from AW, fully charged.

Regalight EDC:

Overall output OP 14500 MAX: 11720 LUX
Overall output SMO 14500 MAX: 11920 LUX

Throw from 1m OP 14500 MAX: 6280 LUX
Throw from 1m SMO 14500 MAX: 36700 LUX

Just for compare:

Raidfire Spear:

Overall output SMO 18650 MAX: 11650 LUX

Throw from 1m SMO 18650 MAX: 28400 LUX

---

It is really impressive, it will according to the luxmeter out throw the Spear, man this thing is bright, don't think you can get another 1xAA light with the same amount of output, this is truly amazing!

So it is not possible to go directly from high to a low custom setting? Also, is it possible to start directly at a low custom setting?
Still trying to understand the UI better.:sigh:

You have one adjustable mode, so you can program that mode to be low, and it wil be saved untill you change it again.

So if you program low, it wil always be low when turned on untill you cange it.

Re: Regalight® EDC - Mini Review - Pics Beamshots and more...

Well I am about to go a birthday party, so this is my last post probably for today (always has my cell phone with me, so maybe I will just take a peak if I am bored :D).

This is the best I can do without a tripod, it is hard to both hold the camera and flashlight steady.

Here is some throw shots about 15m:
