What Are The 'Ridges' On The Business End Of The NEX?

Sorry if this is a lame, greenhorn question but I was just curious:

If you scroll down a little bit to approximately the center of this page, you will see two different styles: on the 'business end' of the flashlight, the one on the top ('Anodized Strike Bezel') appears to have 'ridges' and the one beneath ('Stainless Steel Bezel') is smooth.

Are the ridges solely for, er, 'tactical' purposes?

ALSO, do you rate the NEX?

People around here say that the short ones are for self defense purposes, while a more aggressive one can be used for breaking glass.

I'm not too sure where this one falls on the scale. I think you need a very small point to break glass.

I also think it is there for looks.

those ridges are commonly refered to as "strike bezels" for agressive points or "cenerlated" (I know i spelt that one wrong) for small points. one neet thing about cenerlated bezels is that if you set the light "buisness end" down then you can tell if its on or not, especially with incandesence lights this is usefull... hope that helped
