I was looking to upgrade my D-mini and came across this by accident. Can anyone tell me the story of these lights?

They are clones of the original LumaPower light, made with some parts taken from the factory during a company split. It is a decent light for the money, but you can get an original LP D-mini for a few dollars more. The LP light will have a warranty.... DX is basically a roll of the dice.

The anodizing is nice on the DX light, and it is an OK thrower, but it was not as bright as my original D-mini with an old P4 LED. It may use a less efficient driver board. I did not open it up far enough to find this out.

You can get the original D-Mini w/Q2 from BatteryJunction.com for $49.95 - CPF discount + shipping. A good light from a good outfit to deal with. I've gotten stuff from DX, and haven't had problems, but the shipping takes forever, and as others have pointed out, the Lumas DX is offering are somewhat questionable. Get the legit one from BatteryJunction, or LumaPower.

The D-Mini is a great little light, BTW.
