Are there any good Phone techs?
Yes but the chances of you getting one is slim until you get to some second tier. It does not hurt to ask.
Why?
I thought you'd never ask.
A new tech tends not to know a lot and can only rely on the "book", so if you get a new one and have done your homework they will not be much help.
As time goes if they *can* be good they remember solutions and gain the ability to solve problems.
If they can't then they never get away from the book and if you have done your.....
Much of the time you will get a new one or a bad old one.

That's good enough for the vast majority of people who call with problems and that's why you will rarely get a good one. By the time they get good they have given the same simple answers to people about a gazillion times. Is it plugged in? Is it turned on? Sorry, is both the box and the monitor turned on? Is there anything on the screen? (Which is frequently answered "no" even if there are things there)

So after the good ones get good, they get bored, get gone, and start consulting for $50.00 an hour.
