Earlier this afternoon I called Surefire to order some MN02's. This is a nearly verbatim account of my conversation with the nice lady who was the customer service representative:

SF: Hello, Customer Service

BN: Hi, I'd like to order three MN02's

SF: (Pause)…

BN: You know, the low power bulb for the E2..

SF: Oh yes, we're selling a lot of those now, how many would you like?

BN: Three. By the way, do you give a special discount for CPF?

SF: CT—What?

BN: CPF-CandlePowerForums

SF: (Sound of giggling)

BN: Excuse me, are you laughing?

SF: Well--Yes, I was laughing

BN (Slightly put out) Why?

SF: That's a funny name, Candlepowers!

BN: You mean you've really never heard of us?

SF: I'm sorry Sir, I've never heard that name, what is it?

BN: CandlePower Forums. We're the biggest internet group devoted to discussing, evaluating and testing high tech flashlights.

SF: Really? Oh—

BN: Paul Kim and Ken Goode are members

SF: (Sounding impressed) Really!

BN: Many of the top flashlight dealers and manufacturers are members of our group and they are very aware of what we think of their products; we even help develop some of them

SF: (Sounding very impressed) Sir, I wasn't aware of all that!

BN: We are the most prominent group of its kind on the web—really, in the world.

SF: (Sounding extremely impressed) Sir, I had no idea it sounds like a really important group.

BN: We actually influence the buying patterns of people looking for specialty lights, and probably the biggest reason you're selling all those MN02's is because of our influence.

SF: Sir, I really had no idea!

BN: So, in light of all I've told you it would certainly make sense for Surefire to extend a discount to members of our group, don't you think?

SF: (Silence)

BN: Doesn't that seem logical?

SF: Sir, I'm afraid that's impossible.

BN: Well, OK, I understand.(A few minutes pass as I give my name, address, credit card, etc) ….. Then you'll send those MN02's right out by 2nd day air?

SF: Yes sir, we'll send those right out.

BN: Great, and could you possibly knock a little off the shipping price?

SF: …….Oh, Sir!!

Well, I tried!!

She probably thought we were into some sort of candle buring & hot-wax club.

There is nothing wrong with messing with candles...

So who at SureFire would be the one to approach to see if we can get a deal for CPF members?

I think it would be fighting a battle to get a deal for SFDB members, but unless we try.

Who is in charge of Sales at SureFire?

Just a thought...

Great idea Al. Could you ring PK and ask him for the head of Sales name and number?

How can this happen? She doesn't know about us...thinking about it we should make some stickers, send them to SF and they would have to stick these to every computer monitor...on the sticker it will say: "Treat CPF members like you treat the king (and don't forget the 40% discount)!"...that would be it!

I suspect the the contact details for the Sales Manager or someone in a similar position would be on the SureFire.com site contacts page...
