Recommend me a new flashlight for around the house

I'm looking for something very bright and size really isn't an issue as it will be used for around the house and out in the yard.

I have a TaskForce 3Watt Cree light from Lowes which I really like but want something with more size and power!

I've been looking a lot at the lights from DealExtreme.com however there are just so many to choose from.

I'd like to keep it within reason say $50-$80 however I might be persuaded to go a little more.

So with that said! Shoot away!

I recommend you get the Coleman 530 lumen Rechargeable LED spotlight $60 from Sears. I have owned both it and the Task Force CREE for a long time. The Coleman looks easily 4 times brighter and has many times the throw. It also has many times the spill brightness of the Task Force.
The Coleman has a 2.5 hour runtime and can be run directly from its AC charger for unlimited power!

It has a smaller and much more intense hotspot than the Task Force, and a huge bright ring of spill. It can easily light up an entire garage living room in a ceiling bounce. It feels very comfortable to hold and has a switch lock to keep it on without pulling the trigger down.

If you weren't thinking something quite so enormous, an Ultrafire C8 with MC-E from dealextreme should do the trick for about $43. I only recommend the C8 over all their other MC-E lights because it's the only one that can run off of CR123 primaries in case you don't have 18650s and a Li-ion charger.

Anyway, you should get at least 4x the lumens as your taskforce light!

How about the MTE SSC P7 from dealExtreme?
Very bright, only $37.80, and unlike some of the previous replies, is actually a flashlight.

They look like rather nice drop-in's for the Mag Lite brand.

What are your thoughts on these?

I was thinking the 2-Cell D light for the time being.

I have a magled 4d that I swap a Terralux tle-300 in from time to time when I need max light. I am pleased with it's performance and light output. For the money I don't think you can get a brighter led light than the Tle-300.

Where can I see some reviews or possibly where can I purchase the TLE-300.

Other than my 6 cell maglite and my Johnlite giant halogen rechargeable, I find the all around winner around the home for me is the Lumilite 4700 Krypton. It's waterproof, has a pencil thin throw and a great run time on it's 6V lantern battery.

Skyeye that is a really beautiful light! I share your appreciation for sealed beam lanterns like that with pencil beams, and imagine that Lumilite lantern must be really amazing.:thumbsup:

Here is one I recommend that I have owned for quite a while. It is rechargeable and has a 4 hour runtime, and almost equals my 10 million candlepower spotlight in throw. You can get this "Dorcy Industrial Rechargeable Xenon Lantern" from Sears for $40 or online cheaper (PM me if you would like a link). This Dorcy out throws the Coleman LED spotlight by a large amount. I will post a beamshot of it tonight.

I keep forgetting I'm dealing with flashaholics - when someone says "around the house", I keep picturing a one or two AA cell light for casual use.

Not a man-portable HID spotlight for blinding low-flying helicopters.

I think he might be looking for something a bit brighter (and possibly bigger). He's already got a 3W CREE light. Not sure what it is exactly, but I'd guess it's probably putting out 100+ lumens.

That's why I suggested an Ultrafire MC-E light... $40-$45 at DX in various sizes and configurations (including a 2x18650 / 4xCR123 version) and more than 4x the output he currently has!

+1. This a great light for around the house or in the yard. It is supposed to put out 200 lumens, although I think 180 or so. It is a great thrower, easy for anyone in the house to operate (just one light level with forward clicky), and with the D cells has long battery life, inspite of the high output. Not only that, but it easily tailstands, which good for power outages. The only problem with light is finding a good one. The quality control is lousy and you have to hunt to find one with a well centered LED. If you get a good one, you'll love it for only $25. I keep one under the front seat in my car. It's great for reading house addresses.
