Local shop has on sale a light with side emitting luxeon I in a shallow dish reflector, it projects light very well but output and tint leave a lot to be desired. Is there any emitter with modern (i.e. cree level) output that can replace the luxeon?

I've replaced side-emitting Lux Is in an Argo HP and a 712L with Seoul P4s, and got great beams (with proper die/reflector height).

Really? Even in a reflector designed for side emitters?

I duno, can't imagine it'll still have the same throw, but the light is only ten bucks so I guess I can try.

Back a few years my UK4AA eLED with side emitter was a favorite. It's still a good utility light, but a bit anemic. Seems about time they did an upgrade. Maybe they have and I just missed it.

The one I was looking at has reflector three times the diameter but same depth as argo. I'll have to see if it works.
