I have a SF L1 Cree and a E2 body that takes a 17670. Is it ok put the SF L1 Cree head on the E2 with 17670 battery? Will that be a problem? Too much voltage for the L1 Cree head? I know it will be 1 stage but that is ok. It will be brighter. Has anyone tried this combo? Is there a long term damage to the L1 Cree LED? Advice needed.

Thanks much for the input.

Somebody did this once, I can't remember who......................

I don't think it ended well - unless you count SF fixing it for them as a positive ending.
I think of that as being back to square one but if my dead light was brought back to life by SF I guess I would feel pretty positive about it.

I have been doing this for well over a year with ML1 SSC & Luxeon heads.
I have one old L1 body bored & stroked (driver removed) by Milkyspit to fit a 17500 and it runs the head DD - except on low of course.
I have another ML1 that is running DD off an RCR123 in an E1 body with a McE2S switch. - a mini L1. Direct Drive, 150 Lumens.
I have run my SSC & Luxeon ML1's off an 18650 in a Modamag E-series body. 17650, 17500, 16340... I've run em all.

But don't do it. It might shorten the LED life. Or let out the magic smoke.

I measured it only gets around 750mA off a RCR123, so it is not super overdriving it. A 17650 will give it more juice, I should measure that and an 18650.

Somebody ran one off two CR123 for a while. SIX Volts! That's nearly double what it needs. I think that one cooked eventually.
