Will an AW IMR 18650 fit in a 2x 18500 leef body?

In my search to find the best M30 host (with a leef 18650 not available) I'm wondering:

Will an AW IMR 18650 fit in a 2x 18500 leef body? Assume its much too long but... but, will a dummy CR123 fill the gap?

Anybody with a multitude of leef bodies, or a knowledge of the battery measurements, have any idea?

My struggle is to keep this host all surefire HA color (not black) to take advantage of all the bezels and tailcaps I have...

I'd graciously be open to any other ideas.

Thanks!

EDIT: Ugh - not sure if this should be in the battery section...

A place in need of light.
Re: Will an AW IMR 18650 fit in a...

I own no 18500 lights, but after going to energizers technical page I found that the CR123 "or if it's a dummy" is 34.5mm long so that plus 65mm for the 18650 will get 99.5mm or .5mm shorter then two 18500 "50mm x2 = 100mm" So if my math is right and the light has any sort of reasonably tense spring then the .5mm gap should not matter:thumbsup:. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong:crazy:. What set up are you going to be running that will be better this way though? Just curious:rolleyes:.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm going to be running an M30W on one 18650 as opposed to one CR123 or RCR123 or two AAs.

The 18650 should get me brighter and better runtime than the others...

You got this over at CPFMP aswell and I answered there...
You have the diameter to consider aswell..
And the different voltages...

Oh give me a break :ironic:

Didn't see your response over there until now (many thanks) and wasn't actually asking the question openly on marketplace - that's why I noted in my post over there that I'm asking the question over here (and did so in much more detail) so as to not have two questions running simultaneously - follow me?

Further, I also asked here for additional advice or ideas on running the M30.

Apologies Lumafist for being a bit coarse and defensive - just assumed you were busting my balls for cross-posting ;)

Yep, I am well aware of the bored 6P, but, as I stated in my original post, I'm looking for a "not black" solution and was interested in the possibility of running a 18650 in a 2x 18500 tube.

Okay. I can try this out for you tomorrow, with a M60, an 18650 and a CR123. The dimensions of that should all be the same.

Well, I have a FM 2x18500, it would probably work better if someone with a Leef tried it out for you.

Divine, thank you - I'll keep my fingers crossed for a response re someone with a leef body.

Why do obsessions have to take such silly forms? :duh2:

Just make sure that the test run in a 2X 18500 tube uses a dummy CR123. I say this because I have heard of people using a so called "depleted" CR123 as a dummy CR123, thinking that there would not be enough current in the depleted CR123 to cause a problem.

Just had a look in Lighthound and the according to the description given
the 2 x 18500 body with also take 3 x RCR123 cells.
To me that, tells me that a 18650 cell and a 123 cell will be ok

Thanks guys - I think I'm just going to pull the trigger on the 2x 18500 tube and check it out.

I hope the natural HA is a better color match than the last tube I received...

I think a 2x18500 body will have much better runtime with a M60 and two 18500's, though.

I don't see any advantage to a single 18650 unless you consider 2/3 of the battery capacity an advantage.

Well, even though bullfrog is not interested in 2XAA, he will certainly have that option using the M30 and 2X18500 body. Would be great in an emergency.

Hi Divine - I agree and I'm actually going to be running an M30 (not an M60) on a single 18650...

My M60 setup is already taken care of and I am currently running my M60W on two 18650s in a 2x leef body with a nice SW01 fatty.

For my M30, I don't want to use 18500 at all because I only want to use safe chemistries, which limit me to AW's new IMRs or his LifeP04s, with the IMR 18650 giving me the best runtime by far out of all the safe chemistires.

The only reason I'm interested in a 2x 18500 body for my M30 is because I cannot find a natural HA 1x 18650 for it... So I'm trying to make it fit in a 2x 18500 :D

@ Buzzeyebill - I love the 2 AA option of my M30 and have run that setup many times in my C2 plus extender - but I want to keep a dedicated setup for it using an 18650 for the additional lumens and runtime.

This is why the M30 is quite possibly my favorite piece I own (other than my Spy) - its just so darn flexible! I think Sgt.LED said it perfectly, "it is THE module for the end of the world."

And, of course, all of my issues are because I want to keep it natural HA and not black :shakehead But I have another SW01 that is just begging to be put on another leef body
