I'm looking for a cheap torch to mod. It must be able to take a Luxeon star (possibly a 10W to start with, but doesn't need to come with one).

End use will be for fog lights on a motorbike, so battery type not important. Postage to UK must be cheap as well.

I bought a couple of 3W 1 x CR123s off ebay, but they wouldn't fit a star and not enough aluminium in them to act as a heat sink. I prefer them to fit a star so its easy for me to replace if/when I burn them out.

Any suggestions?

Thre is no 10W Luxeon star. You might mean SSC P7 or Cree MC-E.

You could use Maglites, but I know those are expensive in the UK. Perhaps something like this from DX?

Sorry, I should have said just star not Luxeon star. Just that style/size of mounted LED. The one I had seen while flicking through Farnell was the Ledengin LZ4-40CW10, although I didn't spot the high Vf.

I bought a sku.1442 from DX to try. I'll see how long its LED lasts and what the light output is at 1A. I also ordered a couple of Crees to compair.
