So after having scanned the pages of CPF for outdoors comparison pictures between these drop ins and coming up empty-handed, I decided to step outside and take a few myself. You will find NO whitewall shots here.

About the lights...the M60L is inside of a SF G2L host. The M60 is inside of a CL1H v2 host and the M60W is inside of a CL1H v4 host. All three lights are running on brand new CR123A primary batteries (two in each host).

About the pictures...the camera that I used is a Pentax K10 with an 18-250 lens set on 18mm. I used full manual mode for these pictures so white balance is AWB, ISO is 100, F3.5, and all taken at six seconds. Exposure is dead set in the middle with auto focusing. This is the same for every photo.

The order...there are five groups of three shots. The order is all of them is M60L first, M60 next, and M60W last. These shots are best viewed with all lights turned off in the room. Seriously.

I know which one I like the best. Now it's up to you to decide which you like the most.:twothumbs

I really cannot wait until Gene starts to (hopefully) "mass produce" his P7 drop in.:)

These two pics are fantastic! They really show the advantage to the "W"
drop-ins that Gene offers.

And since it's gonna be Christmas soon, just want to add the ref:

M60 : Snow Miser

M60W : Heat Miser

Thanks!

Fascinating how the m60W looks brighter than the M60 even though it comes with more than a 30 lumen disadvantage. Love the colors too :)

LOVE the M60W!!!

The tint is unreal and honestly I almost never grab one of my Surefires anymore except when I need a low...

Beautiful what you give up in lumens is more than offset by the gain in the extra detail you can see with the warmer light. W all the way.

Those are impressive! I have been on the fence about purchasing an M60W but the color rendition is awesome! The pictures speak for themselves! Thanks! Great pictures!!

M60L is an incredible drop-in: %200 increase in runtime from, at %85 the brightness of, the M60. Love it!

m60 is my favorite as well,

because the colors seems more accurate

the L is not as bright

the W is not as accurate (copper looks woody/ because the camera set to awb, the sky is violett/ is that window-shutter bluisch or brown? (i supose it is bluisch because it would look nice to the yellow house :))

On my monitor it looks like a dark navy blue with the M60w, and plain dark blue with the M60.

I have a M60L on the way from him as we speak (hopefully it will arrive today). Maybe Gene made a mistake and theres a "W" tint version in the package instead. That W really does the colors great....

The shutters are actually black, like the mat on the doorstep. For all out power, the M60 wins hands down (mine is the production version btw), but for color rendition, the M60W seems to win with my eyes.

I tend to look at the smaller stuff when trying to determine which one I like the best. For instance, in the first set, look at the color of the rock in the bird bath. And in the third set showing the mirror, look at the color of the pine needles. In the final set, obviously the house is painted yellow, but look inside the window at the turquoise blue wall in the room.

When I get home from work tonight, I am going to be taking some more pictures of paintings inside the house.

VERY nice job on the pics! Also, great choice for the comparison!

My choice is the M60. While I love the tint of the M60W, I'll always opt for more lumens in a single mode light.

The only Malkoff I currently own in the M60F (flood) which is great for it's intended purpose. Really great.

I'd love it if Gene would come out with a multi-level unit. Are you working on one of those Gene? :D How about a W with the same lumen output as the regular M60?

Now that's not Gene's choice. Cree isn't making the 5A in anything brighter than the Q3. WHEN they do I am sure Gene will start using them.
And I'll have to buy another round of Malkoff's!

Re: M60L vs M60 vs M60W - You decide which is better...

Does anybody know how to make one of those GIF files so I could put the three pictures on top of each other? Or is that some type of complicated process? I think it would really help with looking at the pictures as opposed to scrolling down and then back up again then back down again then back up again then....
