Hi Guys,

Looking to convert a 2 tube 6V coleman lantern into a 4 LED room illuminator.

I have purchased some 1.5" x 3/16ths Aluminium bar as a heatsink, just looking at what would be the best emitter to use in this application.

I'm thinking a 4XK2's driven at 1A, with optics fitted would this provide a flood rather than a "lighthouse" effect.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Paul.

Given its likely placement as eye-level, direct lighting, the concern is the blinding nature of lumens originating from a small point rather than a larger plane like with CFL.

Note that the blinding factor is different than the throw angle. A lambertian emitter throws over almost 180 deg. We could put two back-to-back and get a 360 throw. But this is completely different than say the same number of lumens originating from inside a large frosted globe. The optics do tend to make the light originate from a wider area than the emitter itself, which is a "start" anyways.

I have some plastic privacy window film I was going to try to use to diffuse the light as much as I can.
