The person I'd like to get the light for, has some specific requirements that have left me stumped. Help would be greatly appreciated.

- Must have momentary switch or forward-clickie.

- Must have pocket clip and positioned for bezel-up carry.

- Must be 200+ lumens out the front.

- Must have a tactical strobe feature that is easy to access, but not with a half-press of the tailcap switch.

- Must be all black. HAIII preferred.

-Must be tough with a good reputation for quality.

- Must be able to run on 2xCR123 primary cells.

Off the top of my head, I came up with two choices. The Olight M20 Warrior & the JetBeam Jet-III Military.... But the Olight has a bezel-down clip and the JetBeam isn't available in black. :(

Any ideas? Thanks, in advance.

The JetBeam III Ultra with the "Broad Voltage" option will run on 2x123s (and has the full three-mode IBS interface), and it is indeed black. The only one of your criteria that it doesn't meet is that the clip is bezel-down, I'm not sure if it can be turned around or not..

Surefire C2 with a Makoff of your choice meets all your requirements but strobe.

This was my idea as well.

Or, does the Gladius have a pocket clip? Last I checked it has all of the other features.

Disclaimer: I haven't done business with this company, nor do I have any experience with this product, but: SF drop-in kit.

The after-market tailcap requires pressing both buttons to activate the strobe.

Edit: The Fenix TK 11 R2 is another close second, but no clip or strobe.

Get them a Nitecore extreme with an E1E body... and have them carry a spare battery. :grin2:

Re: Need a light for someone special.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. :)

Unfortunately, the "Must have" list is just that.

Some good ideas so far. But not a single light that meets all of the criteria. :(

The JetBeam-III Pro Ultra lacks strobe.

The SF drop-in kit looks promising, but not sure if strobe would be easy to access since both buttons need to be depressed at the same time.

E1E body would be too short.

(Seems this is going to be a tough one. In a weird way I'm almost glad I wasn't the only one a bit stumped for an idea on what to recommend).

OpticsHQ Surefire tailcap really is good, strobe is easy to access but avoidable when you don't want it, and is nice to use.

The JetBeam-III Pro Ultra lacks strobe.

All JetBeams with the IBS interface allow you to select a 1 to 15hz strobe in 1hz steps, plus set it to whichever mode you want. It also features a "double-blink" locator strobe, and an ultra-low 5 second strobe.

Didn't know about that. (Don't own any JetBeam lights myself).

Was checking out the description of the light on BOG's site. No mention of strobe in that model's description. But it's mentioned in the general description for JetBeam lights.

From the pics, the Jet-III Pro Ultra looks grey instead of black. Is this accurate or just an optical illusion?

Re: Need a light for someone special.

Is black an absolute necessity?

I'm afraid so.

Is spray paint allowed?

I'm afraid not. :sigh:

I know what you mean. Without that one particular "Must Have," this would be a lot easier. Darn it.... isn't black supposed to be a popular flashlight color?

If you can wait for its release, I believe the upcoming SureFire UB2 Invictus fills your requirements 100%. Beyond that, I too am having a hard time coming up with one that fills ALL those requirements.

JetBeam uses a dark, neutral Mil-Spec anodizing that in strong light appears as a gunmetal/slate gray, but in any other situation, is merely black. It's not the glossy black of a Maglite, but it does look more robust/expensive.

(Don't own any JetBeam lights myself).

You should try one out :twothumbs

To: RobertM ~

Clip on the UB2 is projected to be bezel-down carry.

I don't normally do this, but I'd like to give this topic one more chance.

So.... :bumpit:

I'd say they are "special" alright. Good luck with that.

Re: Need a light for someone special.

Hmm... a E1B-style clip could probably be made out of spring steel to fit the M20...
